Course Description:
This course reviews pulmonary rehabilitation and humidification for patients with surgical airways using heat and moisture exchangers (HMEs). Attendees will compare HME types, examine evidence-based practices and gain practical strategies for integrating HMEs across care settings from hospital to home to optimize patient outcomes.
Course objectives:
- Interpret current evidence on active and passive humidification to inform clinical decision-making for patients with surgical airways
- Describe the clinical benefits of HME use for patients with tracheostomy and laryngectomy
- Implement strategies to integrate HME use into clinical practice across care settings
