This course addresses access and equity of care for patients who have undergone a total laryngectomy. Specific barriers such as race, culture, socioeconomic status, distance from clinics, and clinic resources will be discussed.

Pediatric patients with tracheostomies differ significantly from their adult counterparts. This course reviews the differences between pediatric and adult upper airway anatomy and physiology. It explores the indications for pediatric tracheostomy and common diagnoses requiring placement. Importance of artificial humidification, daily cares, and the pediatric tracheostomy tube will be discussed.

This course delves into the design of tracheostomy tubes and their impact on decannulation time. Participants will explore critical factors such as the inner to outer diameter ratio and learn how these design elements influence patient outcomes.

This course will review anatomy and physiology of the upper aerodigestive system, physiologic changes following tracheostomy, and tracheostomy tube types and components. Teamwork, appropriate cuff management techniques, use of HMEs, and speaking valves will be emphasized.

This webinar takes a closer look at how diameter and airflow characteristics of a voice prosthesis (VP) influence voice quality for people using tracheoesophageal voice following total laryngectomy; various patient scenarios will also be discussed. The speakers will further discuss the airflow characteristics of specific VPs and clinical evidence that demonstrate enhanced voicing characteristics.

New research examines changes to pulmonary health and related symptoms with use of new generation HMEs. Specific clinical outcomes will be discussed.
