Course description: Pediatric patients with tracheostomies differ significantly from their adult counterparts. This course reviews the differences between pediatric and adult upper airway anatomy and physiology. It explores the indications for pediatric tracheostomy and common diagnoses requiring placement. Importance of artificial humidification, daily cares, and the pediatric tracheostomy tube will be discussed.

  • State three physiologic changes following tracheostomy
  • Describe two characteristics of a heat moisture exchanger
