Course description:
This course covers surgical and clinical decision-making to optimize tracheoesophageal (TE) voicing after laryngectomy. It highlights precise stomal creation and key surgical considerations to support adhesive attachment, Heat and Moisture Exchanger (HME) use, and collaboration between speech pathologists and physicians to improve functional outcomes.
Course objectives:
- Apply evidence-based research to improve functional communication outcomes and enhance quality of life for laryngectomy patients.
- Discuss complex surgical decision-making processes and their impact on TE voice restoration, including anatomical and specific considerations post-laryngectomy.
- Describe the benefits of optimal stomal creation for effective HME attachment using adhesives to support successful TE voicing.
- Discuss strategies to foster effective collaboration between Speech Pathologists and Physicians to improve functional results.
