Course Description:

This advanced level course designed for healthcare professionals managing dysphagia in the laryngectomy population focuses on the challenging and difficult to manage esophageal strictures in the laryngectomy patient. Topics include surgical and self-dilation techniques for esophageal strictures, including OR-based dilation, and post-procedure care using bougie dilators to optimize outcomes.

Course objectives:

  • Summarize the indications and techniques for surgical and self-dilation in the management of esophageal strictures.
  • Discuss the role of multidisciplinary care in post-operative management, including the use of bougie dilators to maintain esophageal patency.
  • Describe the anatomical and functional considerations relevant to esophageal dysphagia and stricture evaluation across clinical disciplines.
