Course description:
This session explores clinical strategies to restore voice in patients with tracheostomy, emphasizing patient-centered care and multidisciplinary collaboration. Participants will examine speaking valves and above-cuff vocalization (ACV), including airflow mechanics, cuff management, patient selection, safety considerations, and clinical case application.
Course objectives:
- Describe the clinical and psychosocial impact of communication loss and the benefits of voice restoration in patients with a tracheostomy.
- Differentiate between speaking valves and above cuff vocalization based on airflow mechanics and patient candidacy.
- Apply clinical decision-making principles to implement appropriate voice restoration strategies.
