Clinical evidence supporting Provox Life – Ward study

New clinical study shows changes in pulmonary outcomes as a result of implementing a Day and Night regimen with Heat and Moisture Exchangers (HMEs).

Study objectives

The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of the use of next generation devices (Provox Life) and the establishment of an optimal day and night regimen on pulmonary health, HME adherence and use, sleep, skin irritation, quality of life and participants’ overall satisfaction.

Study outcomes

The objectives of the new clinical study were to examine changes in pulmonary and related symptoms using a new generation of Provox Life HMEs. The study was a two-phase clinical trial wherein participants transitioned from Provox HMEs to comparable Provox Life HMEs while maintaining their current usage patterns. In the second stage, patients used different types of Provox Life HMEs based on the activity, aiming for the highest possible humification for day and night. The following results were reported:

  • During stage one, transitioning from Provox HMEs to the higher performing Provox Life HMEs significantly improved overall pulmonary health
  • During stage two, using the highest humidification Provox Life HMEs optimally during the day and night further improved pulmonary health
  • Quality of sleep improved significantly when Provox Life HMEs were used throughout the day and night
  • Using the new generation of Provox Life HMEs enhanced HME adherence and facilitated the use of an optimal day and night regimen


  • The transition from using Provox HMEs to Provox Life HMEs improves pulmonary health, due to the enhanced humidification properties of the new generation devices.
  • Better breathability of the new generation Provox Life HMEs and ability to change devices to suit the activity level, improves HME adherence in established HME users.
  • Implementing an optimal Day a Night regimen (using the highest humidification HME for the situation) further improves pulmonary health and sleep quality.
